DIY Leather Sunglasses Case
Here you will find the tips on how to make your leather sunglasses case. This tutorial you can use for sewing with synthetic or genuine leather.
Materials needed for sewing this sunglasses case
For sewing a case for sunglasses I used artificial (synthetic) leather. For inner part of sunglasses case I used thin and soft quilted fabric. The quilted fabric or another soft material is needed to protect the smooth surface of the glasses.
To decorate the edge of case you will need a tape.
How to make a pattern for sunglasses cover
Put the glasses on the paper and outline the contours without forgetting to add the seam allowances.
Making the pattern for sunglasses case is very easy. So I will not do the construction of patterns and calculations.
Now you need cut two part of lining and two equal part of leather case, as shown.
First steps of sewing a cover
At this stage you need to sew the lining to the top ends of leather parts of cover, as shown.
Attach the front side of the lining to the front side of the leather cover.
Sew the both detail together, leaving 1 cm on each side of the seam.
Now you need stitch both parts of lining together, leaving seam allowance 1 cm.
Now you need to trim the edges of seam allowances, as shown in this photo.
How to attach both parts of leather parts
The sewing machine is no longer required. But you need a special tool - a hole punch for leather.
Using it you will make the holes around the edge of leather covers.
So look these holes along the edge of the sunglasses case.
Note: Holes on both parts of the cover must be symmetrical.
Tips: Before making the holes put both leather parts together and fasten the edges with clips.
Binding both edges of cover with decorative tape
Using this tape you will need to tie the edges of cover together. Insert the tape through first hole and make knot.
Note: You can use an another type of tape, other color of it, other type of binding for, example the cord etc.
Special tool for pulling the cord
A special tool can be used for pulling the cord through these holes of the sunglasses case.
The ends of the tape should be hidden inside the cover, as shown.
The making your leather sunglasses case is finished.
