How to Sew Mitered Corners on a Blanket

Learn how to sew mitered corners. This tutorial helps you to sew a diagonal seam at corners of blanket or tablecloth.
Two pieces of fabrics which imitate a blanket

For this tutorial I used small two pieces of fabrics which imitate a blanket that have four right angles.
Marking lines on corners of blanket

Place quilted fabric on main fabric (both wrong sides together). Mark points in each corner of main fabric with pencil, as shown.
Now you need to draw such marking lines on all corners of blanket using the triangular ruler.

Next you need fold each corner of main fabric, as shown.

Step back from the edge of the fabric along this line 1-1.5 cm and mark this point with a pencil.
Stitch mitered corners along marked lines

Now you need to stitch all four mitered corners along marked diagonal lines, as shown on this photo.
How to trim the fabric near seams

Take a scissors and trim the fabric near these seams.

Now you need to cut the fabric edges here without reaching the seam.

Press these seam allowances open.
Preparation the corners of blanket

Now it's time to turn out this presumed blanket having mitered corners, but one more thing needs to be done.

Fold four inner edges of fabric with allowances 1 - 1.5cm and press it, as shown.

Now you can turn out all mitered corners of the blanket.
Place quilted fabric into the blanket

At this stage you need insert the quilted fabric into the blanket cover and press well.

Pin four sides of blanket and four mitered corners.
Last step of sewing blanket with mitered corners

Now you need to make last step of sewing blanket with mitered corners. You must to sew along inner edges of blanket, as shown on this photo.

The mitred corners look smooth and symmetrical on both sides of the blanket.

The mitred corners is a well looking hem of other sewing projects such as tablecloths and napkins etc.
