Parts of knit womens shorts

Here are parts of pocket with lining.
For sewing of jersey shorts most often is used waistband with an elastic casing.
Elastic rib knit fabric is better fabric for for making cuffs and waistband.
Cut these details before sewing. One big strip is used for a waistband.
Two small facing strips will be used for binding edges of side pockets holes. Two other strips of slightly longer will be used for hemming pants legs.
Start sewing a summer womens shorts
Start sewing a summer shorts with preparation a waistband. Fold an elastic rib strip in half and press it.
Now place one part of pocket to a front part of shorts, as shown.
Join all parts of the pocket together and pin the binding strip around edge of hole.
Now you need to overlock along this edge. If you don't have an overlock, simply pass a zigzag stitch.
Note: Don't stitch these details together on regular sewing machine with straight stitches.
Now press both binding strips that were added around pocket hole. Press on face side of shorts.
Join part of lining to a pocket using overlock seam only.

How to sew together front and back parts of shorts
Now the pocket of this women's jersey shorts is ready.
It is time to sew front and back sides of shorts together.
Don't sew side and middle seams (inseam) on regular sewing machine with straight stitches. Use overlock stitch sewing machines only.
Note: You can use zigzag stitch instead serger but is undesirable.
Stitching both halves of trousers
Now you need to stitch together both halves of trousers from navel to back.
Note: These jersey summer shorts you can sew using overlock only, without using an usual sewing machine.
How to make a waistband with elastic tape
Now you need attach a waistband around top line of shorts.
Fold the elastic rib knit strip in half and press it, as shown.
Now we can add a strip to waist line of shorts.
How much elastic tape do you need
Wrap your waist with elastic band and determine required appropriate tension of it. Mark this position with pencil. Don't forget add seam allowances.
Sew both sides of elastic strip together, as shown.
How to make a waistband casing
Now you need divide folded waistband and elastic strip into four equal parts.
Insert the elastic tape into folded waistband, as shown.
Pin these four points.
During sewing along edge of waistband make sure that sewing needle not catch rubber band is inside casing.
Cut fabric along the seam, as shown.
Now you need divide the waistband into four equal segments.
Divide a waistline of shorts into four equal segments also.
Now you need add the waistband to the shorts along the waistline together.
Note: These jersey summer shorts are best to sew using an overlock. Don't stitch this seam with straight stitches. Use overlock or zig-zag stitch sewing machines (in the last resort).
How to hem knit shorts with rib knit fabric
Now women's shorts are completely ready. It's time hem bottom of shorts only.
Fold both narrow elastic rib knit strips in half and press, as shown.
Two binding strips for the hemming a bottom pants are ready.
Attach these folded edges of strips to bottom edge of shorts leg using basting stitches first. If you have some skills you can use only pins.
